About us...

If you are considering the Hemlock House for your family's vacation rental this summer, you may be interested to know a little bit about WHOM it is that owns the house. We are Jeanne and Jay Gettinger...and as you can tell by our picture, we are still a little bit wild after all these years. Here is some information about us that we thought we would share. We hope that you find it comforting and entertaining.

Our Lives...

We like to have fun and enjoy our lives together. We met in Manhattan Beach, CA back in the 60's, fell in love and spent the next twenty years raising our family in Warwick, NY. We always dreamed of living in Vermont and moved to the Hemlock House soon after retiring back in 2002. Jay is a retired New York State Administrator and Jeanne is a retired business General Manager.

Our Family...

We have two children, now grown and living on their own, and one granddaughter whom we cherish and adore. Her name is Delilah and here is her picture. We also have a second grandchild due in May that we are very excited to meet.

Our Hobbies...

Jay, affectionately called "Mr. Miyagi" by his son, enjoys the calm pruning and training of Bonsai. He owns over 75 bonsai trees' some of which can be seen around the Hemlock House. Jay is also a proud member of the Green Mountain Bonsai Society and enjoys meetings at Mill Brook Bonsai (www.millbrookbonsai.com) in Jericho, VT.

When not converting collected trees into Bonsai works of art, Jay can be found relaxing in a comfortable chair in quiet thought...usually trying to figure out the most efficient way to pack the car for a long trip or the most efficient route to get to a destination...he's an analyst, but not by trade...he just likes to analyze things.

Jeanne is the opposite of Jay in almost every way. Full of energy and joie de vive, she can usually be found doing one of the following activities...skiing (both downhill and Nordic), snowshoeing, kayaking, hiking the 46 high peaks of the Adirondacks, gardening, or base jumping. Ok...maybe not the last one. While Jay enjoys relaxation in a comfortable chair, Jeanne enjoys getting Jay out of the chair to perform a task that requires more energy than getting the space shuttle off the ground.

Why we rent...

We spend our winters at the Hemlock House skiing at Smugglers' Notch Resort and our summers at our lake house in the Adirondack Park. So during the late Spring, Summer, and early Fall, we decided to offer the Hemlock House to those who wish to visit the area with their families. We hope that you feel comfortable at our home.
